Once everything is set up, you can connect your Google Home Virtual Assistant with your Wemo Home Wi-Fi to begin controlling your Wemo devices with your voice. The linking process is pretty easy as long as you have Remote Access working for your Wemo devices and your Google Home Virtual Assistant is set up and working properly. Those two recipes are so useful, and so obvious, it begs asking why Belkin didn't simply build them into its own WeMo app to begin with. It's easy enough to find the WeMo Insight Switch channel on IFTTT. The problem is there's no way to tell whether you have overlapping recipes between the Belkin and IFTTT apps, other than bouncing back and forth between the two.
Now when you tap the device in Google Home, you’ll see that you can control it by tapping the power button. You’ve essentially used the Google Assistant link to your WeMo device to add the device to a Google Home room. Now you can launch the Google Home app on your smartphone, and you’ll see the WeMo plug listed on the main page in that room. When the last setup process completes, you’ll see the new WeMo plug listed on the app’s main page. The app will switch your phone’s WiFi connection to the local WeMo WiFi signal, connect to the WeMo, and start the setup process.

Link your Wemo devices to a Google Assistant enabled device and ask Google to control your lights and appliances. When you create rules, it's difficult enough to get to a specific time. When you add a product to an existing rule it resets the trigger time of the rule.
This process may sound simple, but a few steps seem to get hung up. For example, the app can struggle to switch to the WeMo device WiFi. Or, it can struggle to retrieve your home WiFi network settings. Just keep repeating the process outlined above and it should eventually successfully add your new WeMo device to the list. To connect to the plug from the smartphone app, Belkin requires you to connect to a special WeMo Wi-Fi signal coming from the plug itself. Ideally, you connect your smartphone to that WeMo network, then use the app to sync your phone with the plug, and then you're free to hop back to your regular Wi-Fi network. Sounds simple enough, but it never worked out that way on the first try. Parents hoping to control TV or game console usage should see the obvious appeal here. It could also help the penny-conscious manage air conditioning or other power-hungry devices' usage. I can even imagine a small business tying the energy cost recipe into a pay-as-you-go service.

If you want to use Google Assistant on your phone to turn on the WeMo plug, just say “OK Google” followed by the same command.
